Myanmar announces first coronavirus cases

Myanmar announced its first two cases of Covid-19 on Monday evening.

The patients, both male and Myanmar citizens, are a 36-year-old who returned from the United States on March 13 and a 26-year-old who returned from the UK on Sunday, the health ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The 36-year-old was admitted to the Tedim Public Hospital in northern Chin State on March 21. He was sick but did not have flu-like symptoms, the ministry said.

The other patient was quarantined at a public health field training centre in Hlegu, near Yangon, and then transferred to the Waibargi Infectious Disease Hospital in Yangon. He has not shown any symptoms.

Myanmar Now could not reach health officials for comments.
