  • 12/03/2015

The Federal Union Party (FUP) comprises former members of 16 ethnic political parties and was formed in mid-2013. Its stronghold area is Shan state, where it hopes to challenge the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party and Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy at the polls.

Although its members contested the 2010 general election and the 2012 by-elections, no seats were won. During the Nov. 8 elections, it will field 37 candidates in Ayeyawady, Magwe, Mandalay, Sagaing, Yangon, Shan, Mon and Kayah states and regions.
